East Canning Vale Primary School
Parents and Citizens Association

Held Wednesday, 25th July, 2001

Meeting opened at 7.30pm.
Chairperson:  Vanessa Smith-Colombini

Introduction To Our New Principal, Peter Glendenning

Peter acknowledged important contribution of parents, and of the P&C.  Peter announced that he has met with architects and builders and everything appears to be running on schedule.  The staffing process is beginning shortly, with the appointment of Deputy Principal, followed by teaching staff.  This will be happening in the next six months.

Perm-a-Pleat Special Guest, Toby

Toby was helpful in pointing out important considerations when choosing uniform colours and fabrics.  Some of these mentioned were:

            Colour Availability
That the garments will be worn everyday by the children
            Allowing for growth room
            Ease of use
            Different to surrounding schools

Following Toby’s presentation, Corinna Mantegna proposed two motions.

MOTION 1:  That the P&C vote tonight by ballot to select the two most preferred uniform options from the four provided.

Seconded:  Lisa Carnell                                                   CARRIED

MOTION 2:  That the school uniform be decided by a vote between the two most preferred options by eligible voters at a fundraising fashion show this term.

Seconded:  Lyn Thackray                                                 CARRIED

Suggestion:  That definition of ‘eligible’ is clarified before this event.

WACSSO Training Night

This will take place on Thursday, 2nd August, 2001 in the Ranford Primary staffroom at 7pm – 10.30pm.  Light supper will be provided.  Training will cover legal issues facing P&C’s, the role of WACSSO, roles and responsibilities of the P&C and holding effective meetings.

School Progress – Peter Glendenning

Peter Glendenning confirms that progress on the new school is going well.  He confirmed that it is his understanding that the drain running along the back of the school will be filled hence there will no longer be a fenced ditch.  The service road and power lines will be taken away, but further details on these aspects are yet to be provided.  Administration buildings may be available on site from next term.

Mailout – Peter Glendenning

Baseline data is required about how many children will be coming to the new school.  This information is required for planning purposes.  While Ranford Primary and Canning Vale Primary have provided some data, a mailout will be conducted to give an indication of dwellings within catchment areas and just beyond.  This mailout will take the form of a very simple document, and will provide a number of advantages, including the opportunity to promote the new school and P&C association, to inform about uniform and naming matters and to provide general information.  This mailout will happen within 3-4 weeks and will be conducted via Australia Post.

IT Committee – Peter Glendenning

Peter is inviting parents and other interested persons to take part in a committee who will be concerned with the information technology requirements of the new school.

School Canteen – Peter Glendenning

The time to make decisions regarding the school canteen is drawing near, and Peter suggests that a Canteen Committee is set up.  Suggestions were made about contacting the Ranford Canteen Coordinator to speak about the issues involved.  This will be discussed later.  Persons interested in joining the very important canteen committee can speak to any of the committee members.

A suggestion was made that a register of useful contacts and businesses be set up.

A query was answered regarding the new school oval:  this will be situated at the back of the school.  Tenders for grass and reticulation going out shortly.

Power line movement – location check.

Action:  Peter Glendenning

Kindergarten classes and their structure will be discussed at a later meeting.

Teacher’s assistants for students with special needs:  the need for this service will hopefully be ascertained through the aforementioned mailout, but will also be provided on a need’s basis.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 22nd August in the Ranford Primary School staffroom.

 The meeting closed at 9.08pm.
